Valerie Biener & Federico Arocena - Founders
Valerie Biener and Federico Arocena founded Global Trends, LLC in 2007, a unique showroom in Miami that represents up-and-coming and established accessory and fashion designers from around the world. Valerie’s fashion career began in 1995 as an intern for Fashion Spectrum Magazine, a Miami Regional Fashion publication. She was later hired by the magazine as a fashion writer, and then moved on to become Channels Magazine’s Fashion editor. She then worked at Condé Nast for five years, first as fashion editor and later as fashion director for Vogue Latinoamérica.
During her years at all three magazines, she styled international advertising campaigns such as Volvo, Neiman Marcus, Perry Ellis Swim, Ritz Carlton and many others, with photographers such as Blasius Erlinger, Enrique Covarrubias, Juan Manuel Garcia, Anatol Kotte, Andrew Eccles, Tony Notarbernadino and Daniela Federicci. She styled covers and worked with countless celebrities including Brooke Shields, Rafael Nadal, Carolina Herrera, Kristen Davies, and Christian Bale.
It was in 2006 that Valerie noticed, during her trips to Latin America, that there were many talented designers that were very well-known in their countries, but were still undiscovered in the United States. She thought of Global Trends as a way of bringing their talent together and offering fashion-savvy retailers and media a fresh approach to global merchandising. The Global Trends endeavor became a full-time distribution company by 2007 and has evolved into a major contributor to the fashion industry.
Valerie’s ten-year career in the high-end fashion publishing industry has given her experience in trend forecasting, fashion styling, product placement, public relations, event production, and fashion marketing. These are all concepts that she applies on a daily basis at Global Trends as Managing Director of the company. Valerie has proven to be a valuable asset to the fashion and accessory industry and the go-to individual in Miami for comprehensive and trend-savvy direction.
Federico Arocena’s background is business and sales. He headed an international sales company for over ten years. His unique and expert approach to the industry, transformed Global Trends, LLC from an idea into a reality.

Cristina Hoyos - Sales Manager
Cristina specializes in the sales aspect of the creative process - what will sell, who will buy it, and who will be the selling target. With a degree in Design and Fashion Merchandising from Ai Miami, she is well-versed in how a product evolves from a sketch, to a sample, to mass production. She previously worked with Dolphin Shoe Company where her client was Steve Madden, an international shoe line based in the United States.
While working with Steve Madden her main focus was production management and quality control. Cristina acted as the final word of approval on all designs imported from the manufacturer. Later, she created her own fashion jewelry line where she proved her ability to build a company that now sells to major boutiques and resorts around the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America.
Today, Cristina works as the Global Trends Sales Manager, where she oversees the sales representative team and purchase orders made to all the designers in the showroom. Most importantly, her insight and expertise is derived from the buyer feedback she receives about the price, quality, and what they are looking for.
